(June 25, 2018) On Friday’s episode of Meet the Press Daily, George Will identified two key drivers of the failure of many of America’s public institutions, including the recent crisis at the border. First, “they don’t legislate in Congress anymore.” As host Chuck Todd observed, they’ve become nothing more than “elected pundits.” Second, the elimination of judgment from the public sphere. “Any policy, anywhere, on any subject, at any time that is based on zero-tolerance of X is going to fail. Because the whole point of zero-tolerance is to make it unnecessary, indeed impossible, to think, to exercise judgment,” said Will.
